Marbling w/ Ilana Kohn
|
I’ve never been so “free” with my own creativity — a little rigid, I’d say. Even as an uptight 7 year old, I envied a lot of my friends who didn’t care whether they colored in the lines, or splattered paint all over their pants, or if their butterfly looked like a butterfly. Enter SpinArt. Just like most kids, it was a passing trend at my toy table, but those were a few months (weeks? days?) that I felt really free. A few months ago, Ilana Kohn (Brooklyn-based designer and marbler) invited a bunch of people over to learn about marbling — a process she has been exploring in a lot of her work. The random, colorful swirls had been so enticing to a lot of people, that they wondered how to it was done. After watching Ilana drop coral, lime green, navy pigment into a tray of water, swirling around and drop a light silk over it I was transported back to the days of spin art, and couldn’t wait to try. You should try, too! Ilana will join us for a Weekend Intensive on marbling silk scarves: April 21+22, 11-5 — $275 (includes all materials) Textile Arts Center – Manhattan About Ilana: Ilana Kohn is a line of clothing, textiles and accessories designed and produced locally in Brooklyn, NY.
