Recently graduated with a BFA in Textiles from RISD, Kayla Mattes is about to launch a textiles-based jewelry line, entitled SUMMER CAMP, this upcoming Fall. She writes, “SUMMER CAMP, Spring/Summer 2013 Collection manipulates the lanyard braiding craft trend phenomenon of the 1990′s into contemporary geometrically structured pieces. The necklaces are characteristically nostalgic, but are driven by a curiosity to transform the ‘kitschy’ trend into something entirely new. The pieces are constructed entirely from textile related techniques and contain no traditional elements of jewelry hardware.”
