Elisabeth Higgins O’Connor

Elisabeth Higgins O’Connor’s series ‘Dreadful Sorry Clementine’ connects horror with humor through her elaborately designed sculptures of monsters. These 6 to 8 feet structures are made out of textiles, newspaper, cardboard, linen, and more. Under the seemingly endless amount of layers stands a wooden structure, giving support to these large sculptures. Although appearing jumbled, at closer look O’Connor’s careful attention to detail and composition cannot go unnoticed. Their mismatch of material and design inspire laughter but their size and strange proportions can make one easily frightened.
