Free Garden Workshop: Dyeing with Rust
|
This summer has been a wonderfully busy time for the Sewing Seeds project at the Textile Arts Center. We want to share the experience of the natural dye garden with more people in the New York textile community, so we are hosting a few FREE DYEING WORKSHOPS in the garden late this summer and into early autumn. The first of the workshops will be on the subject of Rust Dyeing, Sunday, August 12th from 3-6pm. In the workshop you will learn how to dye fabric using only found, rusty objects, water, air and time! Rust dyeing is a simple process and one of the most lightfast natural dyes. Come to the garden with any fabric or garments of your own (natural fibers like cotton, silk, and wool work best) and in a short time learn various resist and binding techniques on how to rust dye at home, all in the delightful setting of our lovely Brooklyn Natural Dye Garden. (the garden is located on the south side of Bergen street between 3rd and 4th Avenues) If you would like to attend RSVP is essential (sewingseeds@textileartscenter.com) Enjoy these inspirational images illustrating the beautiful possibilities of rust dyeing:
