Fashion Week Highlight: Gerlan Jeans
|
This past Saturday, I was invited to my very first run way show for Fashion Week: Gerlan Jeans. My friend Arielle de Pinto, jewelry designer, has been close with Gerlan for a while, as they started their companies around the same time. Gerlan Marcel, Jeremy Scott’s former pattern maker, has totally figured out the contemporary goth/club kid style. Her patterns are pretty outrageous: Teen Witch meets Blade Runner meets Ghost Busters. Sponsored by Manic Panic, this season she is trying to inspire that Wet ‘n Wild black lipstick and neon green toe polish teen inside us all.
I never thought I would feel engaged by this kind of aesthetic but I was VERY into it and actually kind of blown away by the consideration, production and presentation of the line. The show took place on the corner of 21st and 11th Ave in a dark and steaming hot brick space. The dungeon quality or the brick archway mixed with the the Ghetto Gothic beats of Venus X (performing live!!) really added to the best possible experience for this unusual style. In an interview with Paper Mag, she described her latest line as “Nickelodeon Goth Mall Witch”!
Gak dress, this was definitely the highlight of the show. She looked amazing. Props to the photographer, this was a really tough show to capture. Check out the matching witch hat bra and bat sunglasses! Incredible earrings Purple Cross hair piece! |
