Bookbinding + SIUYUETT

My first experience with bookbinding is such a simple and wonderful memory: learning the different possibilities of folios, beeswax thread, taking handmade paper to paste to the wood I used for my covers.

There is such a plethora of possibilities when it comes to handmade books, and I am so blown away when I see such love and time spend on something that will be used by someone else for journalling, sketching, taking daily notes…anything! Once I saw Siuyuett’s bookbinding “HOLD ME TIGHT”… well…let’s just say it was love at first sight!

Siuyuett (Teresa Tsang) sees book-binding a way to untangle the knots in her mind where memories and emotions intertwined. Soothing and warming the cloth case is to the hands as the process to the soul.

She draws inspiration from everyday objects turning ordinary elements into binding materials and creates notebooks that are one of a kind. Others see great talents and creativity revealed by the graceful hands.

She extended her interest into a career as a full-time book-binding artist in 2009 and started conducting workshop sessions in the same year to share her passion and skills with those who also love the craft.”

We do offer bookbinding and bookmaking classes here at TAC every so often (even papermaking!), so be sure to check back so you can tap into all that inspiration you stored up lurking through Siuyuett’s blog +shop!
