Alicia Scardetta

I ran accross the work of Alicia Scardetta a couple of days ago via secret little gem. Although I had never seen her work, Alicia isn’t a stranger. She was a fantastic studio intern at TAC last year. At the time she was finishing her degree in fine arts at Pratt, with a major in printmaking, but she was super eager to learn more about weaving.

Her weaving pieces are a beautiful crossover between tapestry, quilting, hairwraps. And of course, some Sheila Hicks inspiration.

And her papermaking and print work is not less impressive.

My curiosity about the Textile Arts Center increases day by day. I sense a strong resurgence of interest in materials, colors, structures, forms – all inhabited by original voices with informed hands. Sheila Hicks
